Greenfield Village hosted its first annual Old Car Festival on September 8, 1951, when 88 vintage automobiles gathered for a three-hour show. That inaugural event included familiar elements like drivers and passengers in period clothing, a pass-in-review program, and high-wheel bicycles mixed in with the cars. Today, Old Car Festival remains the longest-running antique auto show in the United States.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, traveling circuses entertained millions of Americans. When a circus arrived in town, it staged a spectacular promotional parade down main street, and the musical steam calliope was a highlight. This calliope was built for the John Robinson Circus of Peru, Indiana, about 1917. Other circuses used it before the calliope's retirement in 1929.
